WE, the Women's Caucus exhibition stands to celebrate the Society for Photographic Education’s Women's Caucus members and our diversity through the lens. The photographic works are responsive pieces that illuminate, question, and challenge societal notions through our individual expression, discussing the relationship of power and gender, and the societal intersections.
Initiated in 2020 with a nod to the historical year for gender equality, WE, the Women's Caucus exhibition is the result of a juried international call-to-artists (Women, Trans, and GNC People) investigating and considering the intersection of cultural, social, political, economic, spiritual, sexual, non/gender-based, and environmental forces. The historical legacy of women, the triumphs and struggles for gender equality, inclusion, and diversity have been amplified in recent years. Add the pandemic and racial injustice from this last year, and the collaboration of women, trans, NGC people for WE, the Women’s Caucus couldn’t have come to light at a more powerful time.
Originally slated as a part of the FotoFocus 2020 Biennial Light&, the exhibition moved to the 400 West Rich gallery location where it lived in-person from November 2020 until Feb 2021. Despite the pandemic cancelling many exhibitions, 400 West Rich’s expansive, massive space, offered the opportunity for a safe, socially distanced gallery exhibition experience for art fanatics.
WE are honored that the intimately powerful works of the Society for Photographic Education’s Women’s Caucus members involved with WE, the Women’s Caucus exhibition will be on display during Women’s History month at MiraCosta College Art Department’s Kruglak Gallery.
Funding for WE, the Women’s Caucus exhibition was made possible by SPE Women’s Caucus member Jordanne Renner and the grants received from FotoFocus Biennial Light& and the Greater Columbus Arts Council.
