Photography has been a huge part of my life since first discovering the darkroom in high school. I love its flexibility as a medium and that it allows me to incorporate many of my interests -- collecting, archiving, etc. -- into something visual that I can share with others. I like to explore the formal qualities of informal objects and scenes in my work. I find myself drawn to subjects that are often a little strange or off-putting but rich in texture, mystery, and personality.
Despite having somewhat specific interests in subject matter, I'm constantly experimenting with new techniques and genres, and I've found school to be a great place to foster that sense of curiosity and experimentation. The professors I've had through the years have been (and continue to be) extremely influential in my practice as an artist and always push me to take my work to the next level and try new things. I decided to continue my academic journey at CSU Long Beach, where I'm currently working on a BFA in Fine Art Photography. The networking opportunities and motivation to make work while in school have been priceless tools in expanding my practice, and I can't wait to see what the future has in store!
